writerIt is time to upgrade this website. Due to the massive software enhancements made to Joomla this leaves us with no choice but to upgrade. All the blog comments made the transition to the new software.

The genealogy database has been changed. I could not keep the previous database. I settled on one that is being developed.

We are working hard on this and hope to have it completed in the next day or two day.

dmbtestWe have been busy with researching our other family lines. Hopefully, in 2011 we will get a chance to follow up on the Chalifoux family. We do have some information on the Chalifoux family but have never followed up researching the possible connections with the Ghostkeeper family. The connection is a marriage in the early 1800's.  I will need to confirm the sources before making any announcment . I plan to do this in April 2011.

Living family members have stated we are related to the Chalifoux family. In my 7 years of research on the Ghostkeeper family I occasionally found genealogical information on the Chalifoux family. I now have enough information to start building the Chalifoux family tree as it relates to the Ghostkeeper family. The following is a pedigree chart of Eugenie Rhone who is the daughter of Cleophas Rhone and Rosalie Chalifoux. Eugenie Rhone is married to Colin Ghostkeeper.

pedigree

Update: It was my intention to begin research work in October 2009 but there has been a delay. Our research will begin in May-June 2010.

Rosalie Chalifoux is NOT PROVEN by original sources as being the daughter of Jean Baptiste Chalifoux and Josette Cartier. The above mentioned information is from derivative sources. I will be working to PROVE the origins of Rosalie Chalifoux.

Source to prove Rosalie is the mother of Angelique aka. Eugenie Rowan:

From my own research Angelique is also known as Eugenie who married Colin Ghostkeeper.

Whether seasoned professionals or novice beginners, most genealogists and family historians have, at one time or another, encountered a brickwall; the point in their research when the trail goes cold.

We have reached a brickwall and have provided the following information:

Time Period: 1775-1835

Location: Two possible locations in Alberta are Wabaska or Lac La Biche.

Source: Catholic Parish Records

Ancestors: The following are believed to be brothers:
* Ayisikwew Richard (Ghostkeeper)

  • Etawiskikweyau
Common Law: Marie Anne "Miyoskikabaw" Chalifoux (daughter of Wabistikwan Chalifoux and Niyas "Iroquois")
Common Law: Catherine "Sokkihawasiw" Caraizon (daughter of Wabistikwan   Chalifoux and a Indian name.
  • Piwabiskokas

Métis Elders have recounted that families spent Christmas Eve by attending Midnight Mass, occasionally singing hymns in Cree or French, and then having a large supper and party known as réveillon . However, most celebrating during the holiday season was reserved for NewYear’s Day. As one Batoche Elder told historian Diane Payment “On Christmas Eve, we went to Midnight Mass, and when we got home, we ate a little, dranksome tea and went to bed. The presents were for New Year’s Day”.
